XMG PRO 18 and PRO 18 VE: 18-inch Laptops with High Performance

XMG’s first 18-inch laptops in 15 years, the XMG PRO 18 and PRO 18 VE, are now available. Both models share the same chassis and differ only in their processor, graphics card and display. Their remaining specifications are virtually identical. These spacious gaming and content creation workstations combine extensive connectivity, including Thunderbolt 4, with a full-size keyboard specially adapted to the 18-inch format and a comparatively low weight for this size category.

XMG PRO 18 and XMG PRO 18 VE: 18-inch laptops with Arrow Lake Plus CPUs

XMG had already unveiled its first 18-inch laptops since the XMG P811 in 2011 at this year’s Computex; now, the official product launch follows, with both models available to order via bestware.com.

The XMG PRO 18 (M26) is the more powerful of the two models. It combines Intel’s current flagship laptop processor, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus with 24 cores (8 P-cores and 16 E-cores), with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and a 300 Hz IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The panel offers 500 nits of brightness and covers 100 per cent of both the sRGB and DCI-P3 colour spaces.

The lower-priced ‘Value Edition’ XMG PRO 18 VE (M26) features an Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus with 20 cores (8 P-cores and 12 E-cores), a refreshed NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM, and a 500-nit IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and full coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 colour spaces. The only difference in display specifications compared with the standard PRO 18 is the refresh rate, which is 180 Hz on the Value Edition.

Both processors support Intel Binary Optimization Tool (IBOT) and feature a die-to-die frequency that is 900 MHz higher than that of the previous non-Plus CPUs. This helps improve gaming performance while reducing system latency. The NVIDIA graphics cards each deliver the maximum supported graphics power of 140 watts for the RTX 5070 Ti and 115 watts for the RTX 5070, including Dynamic Boost.

The displays are connected via a MUX switch, allowing users to switch between the dedicated NVIDIA graphics unit and the integrated Intel graphics using NVIDIA Optimus technology. Both panels also support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), with a range of 50-240 Hz on the PRO 18 and 48-180 Hz on the PRO 18 VE. The displays can also be switched to a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz for more energy-efficient operation.

Despite their generous 18-inch format, both laptops are relatively light for their size. They measure 400 x 291.5 x 24.9-26.5 mm and weigh 2.82 kg for the PRO 18 VE and 2.9 kg for the PRO 18, respectively. These figures include a 99.8 Wh battery, which is secured with screws and can therefore be replaced. Both models feature an aluminium display lid for increased stability.

Compared with the XMG PRO 16 from the 2025 model year, the 18-inch models add a third fan dedicated to RAM cooling to their composite cooling system. The CPU and GPU are also equipped with Honeywell PTM7958 phase-change thermal compound. All air outlets are positioned at the rear of the chassis.

Well-equipped with up to 128 GB of DDR5 RAM and 16 TB of SSD storage

As usual, the PRO 18 and PRO 18 VE offer a wide range of configuration options for RAM and SSDs. Both laptops feature two M.2 SSD slots with heat shields and thermal pads to improve heat dissipation, with the primary slot connected via PCI Express 5.0.

Two SO-DIMM slots support up to 128 GB of DDR5-6400 RAM, including CSO-DIMM modules. However, as with the recently launched XMG NEO 16, only configurations of up to 2 x 64 GB DDR5-5600 are currently available on bestware.com due to the ongoing shortage of high-capacity DRAM modules resulting from the memory crisis.

Versatile connectivity, including Thunderbolt 4

The XMG PRO 18 and PRO 18 VE offer extensive connectivity, with numerous ports located on the rear of the chassis. These include a Thunderbolt 4 port with DisplayPort functionality and support for 100 W (20 V, 5 A) and 140 W (20 V, 7 A) Power Delivery, as well as HDMI 2.1 and Mini DisplayPort 2.1. The latter supports DP80 on the PRO 18 and DP40 on the PRO 18 VE. This corresponds to NVIDIA’s maximum UHBR support for the respective graphics cards: Blackwell GPUs from the RTX 5070 and below support up to UHBR10, while GPUs from the RTX 5070 Ti and above support up to UHBR20.

The sides feature a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port with DisplayPort 1.4a and 100 W Power Delivery, three USB-A 3.1 Gen1 ports, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, an SD Express-compatible card reader for full-size memory cards and a 2-in-1 audio jack for headphones and a microphone. Wireless connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi 7, while a Windows Hello-compatible Full HD webcam is available for video conferencing. The 18-inch laptops can natively drive up to four external monitors. The HDMI and Mini DisplayPort connections are handled by NVIDIA’s high-performance discrete graphics processing unit (dGPU), while the Thunderbolt and USB-C ports are connected to Intel’s energy-efficient integrated graphics processing unit (iGPU).

Comfortable keyboard, large touchpad and four-speaker audio system

XMG has made use of the generous 18-inch form factor of the PRO 18 and PRO 18 VE to integrate a four-speaker system. Two speakers are positioned on the top side of the chassis, while the other two are angled forwards on the underside of the laptop.

The keyboard is based on the PRO 16’s design but has been adapted in several ways for the PRO 18. It makes use of the greater width, length and depth of the 18-inch chassis while providing a more comfortable typing experience thanks to an increased key travel of 1.8 mm, up from 1.4 mm, and greater spacing between the keys.

Additional features include a full-size four-row numeric keypad, full-size offset arrow keys, a convenient Fn-Lock function and customisable single-zone RGB lighting. While the keyboard does not support N-key rollover, its gaming-optimised matrix allows even complex key combinations to be registered reliably.

The generous 18-inch format is rounded off by a correspondingly large Microsoft Precision-compliant glass touchpad measuring 152 x 97 mm.
